CPDS - Step by step procedure

          Professional Development Plan


In order to facilitate the Scheme, participants are recommended to develop and plan ahead each year for their learning or studies, for which the requirements of CPDS could be achieved. The PDP should be clear, attainable and flexible as to adjust the needs and respond to new or emerging learning opportunities during the year. The annual professional development plan template is available with the CPDS (Appendix 1), which shall be served as a guideline for assisting individual clinical psychologists to record and plan their studies.
 

          Assessment of Identification of Needs

Taking into account of multiple developmental needs of professional studies and individual differences, participating clinical psychologists are obliged to make judgment for their learning goals that are of accountable to CPDS. It is utmost important that such goals shall be able to make out of a good balance in respect of professional roles, needs, learning priorities, and resources available.

The following guidelines need to be observed by all participants in order to satisfactorily fulfill the requirements of CPDS:

 

  • The content shall be updated with the latest advances in research evidence and theoretical developments within various domains of clinical psychology, organization of work (team building and leadership), communication, ethics, teaching, research and administration.

  • The content of learning or activities shall be able to equip participating clinical psychologists to deal with unpredictable future demands.

  • The content shall be appropriate and relevant to the learning and professional development needs of the participating clinical psychologist.

 

 

          Recognizable Activities

In general, the Sub-committee via the Board shall recognize the following activities as acceptable items for CPDS. Subject the same shall adhere to the aim of the learning and goals of CPDS, the items below are for reference purposes, HKADCP reserves the sole and final discretion regarding the acceptance:

Participating psychologists may tender enquiry for the PDP via the designated form of Appendix 1 or address to the Sub-committee for pre-approval. 
 

  • Conducting or attending clinical psychology workshops, seminars, lectures or courses of study;

  • Writing, assessing or reading and analyzing: peer review psychology journal articles, scholarly professional books and monographs, or research proposals and grants;

  • Producing, viewing, reviewing or analyzing: professional videos, audios, internet resources or scientific posters;

  • Providing peer consultation to other clinical psychologists;

  • Presenting or rendering tutorial on the topics of clinical psychology;

  • Participating or carrying out research or studying in related to theories, skills and techniques of clinical practices or psychology etc.

 

          Maintenance of Attainment Records

Participating clinical psychologists shall regularly maintain a complete attainment records for fulfilling the requirement of future audit and/or issuance of certificate whenever applicable by HKADCP.

Is a HKADCP registered clinical psychologist a qualified clinical psychologist?

Making reference to latest international professional standards, HKADCP has laid clear and objective criteria for admission of registered clinical psychologist  . Apart from high requirement for doctorate level of applicants, HKADCP also has adopted credential criteria requirement, under which applicant's professional qualification is counterchecked by at least one of the established and reputed professional or statutory psychological organizations in comparable developed countries.
